    PA-12 Landing Light

    Hello,

I'm new to this forum, looking for some help. I have a basket case PA-12, doing the wings and the landing light lense and mounting parts are missing. Any place to go to get them? Any STC's for a nosebowl landing light for a -12? Thanks in advance.

Univair has a kit for the landing light assembly (housing and lens). I don't think there's a nosebowl or landing gear STC for the PA-12.

Last I checked the kit from Univair was over $800. I have seen them on eBay a lot cheaper. They are easy to make with a box brake also.

I believe all the individual part numbers are the same for wing light fixture in PA-22/20 and the longwing cubs. Figure out just the pieces you need and buy them individually and you can do it for a lot less than $800. My guy was top notch w/ English Wheel, so he fabricated the lens bezel. When you buy bulbs, spend the extra money for the -Q quartz version. They last a long time. The standard bulbs will only get you 10-20 flight hrs.
Here's the Univair pieces I purchased for $218. (in 2003)
    u12524-002 -$14.68 bracket
    u12524-003 -$10.04 bracket
    u012524-004 -$9.53 bracket
    u12525-000 -$18.80 ea, qty 4 -$75.20 plate
    u12527-000 -$63.35 plate
    u12529-002 -$16.74 plate
    u12529-003 -$16.74 plate
    -12532-000 -$29.75 plexi lens

The rest of the Univair kit is overpriced wire, switches, breakers and bulbs.
If you haven't already, buy the Piper parts manuals for PA-12, -18, -25 & -22/20. You will find Piper didn't have a very deep parts bin when they were cranking all these models out and many part # are the same for most models. Also, do check sources like the want ad section of "Short Wing Piper" club. I've got some good servicable parts from their members too.

    Good luck,
    Chris

Check your part numbers. The Pacer/Tri-Pacer just like the Super Cub changed the number of ribs in the wings and changed the length of the backing plate. There is a short and a long. I made 5 long ones last Sunday. All the other parts are the same. The bezels are made of 3003 and can be broken in a brake and then wrapped around the leading edge to form. The Short Wing Piper Cds have all the drawings for the placement location in the wing, assembly drawing and individual parts drawings. If Leon can get them for $100 I would go that route and buy the correct back plate for $75 from Univair if it isn't the correct one.

Floats Alaska (one of our great sponsors) is working on
a HID light that will mount in the landing gear.

    Check their web site.

OR maybe that's just for 18s...never mind

    PA-22 nose gear landing light

    Hello everyone

I just bought a Tri-Pacer 150, she's lovely, flew her from Calgary to Quebec (home), it's a lot of aircraft for its price.

One thing though, there is no landing light on it. I wonder if there is any STC or approved model that could be mounted on the nose gear. That would be much simpler and cheaper than a wing installation.

    Any thoughts?

    Best regards

    Gilles

You might check with the folks on the shortwingpiper.com forum - they're apt to know more about this.

I've seen Tripoops with a single light on the nosewheel strut. I thought they came from the factory that way, but I could be mistaken. Thought it looked a bit tacky and out of place, myself.

Check with Dakota cub in Iowa. Their kit 1/2 of Univar.

got a couple copies of landing light in nosebowl 337's. Add those to Brian Schanche's and should be a do-able field approval.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....
