Hageland's in Kotzebue, only operator there year round doing off-airport. Plan late oct.
I spent a long time living in OTZ, MGhallen is right mid to late oct for "Bues", Make sure you have a pre arranged agreement with your guide /outfitter not to be dropped off in somebody's back pocket! its late in the season & most of the Paid gun's are gone. PM me & I will give you a LIST of criminals to shy away from![]()

Well late October might put you into the caribou, but forget about eating one of those pretty white maned bulls. They will be in full rut and you won't be able to give the meat away.
As a rule of thumb, we don't shoot any caribou bulls after the third week in September.
Mike
point well taken ! I assumed he was a horn hunter. plenty of TUTU in september alright!

Mike, isn't Buck with Arctic Air Guides doing flyouts from OTZ to off airport locations with his Maule? Saw him when I was up there this August.Originally Posted by mghallen

Ya, Buck is doing drop off's too. Not sure how long he works into the fall. He has one his maules for sale right now in Fairbanks. Hear rumors of him getting out of the business.....
Yukon Eagle out of Galena also flys hunters that way.
My understanding is Hage's is it for right now. Call Buck though for sure, about the best there is, also Jim Rood at Northwestern. Then the "others" show up Aug.-Oct.
Mike
P.S. leave the camo at home and dress warm.
I don't think Brownie with Yukon Eagle Air flew any caribou hunters this fall. Joe Schuster did out of Galena though. He is located in Anchorage when not hunting. I think he has a good reputation and a very nice Beaver.

Hello Buck
Did the floats for the 170 work out okay?
Hi Mike,
They worked quite well considering that I am a fledgling float plane pilot. I flew around 50 hours this summer on floats and never scared myself............BAD.
Alexander Lake in Galena is short so I was never at gross but within 200 pounds a number of times. I think it would make it out at gross in almost all conditions.
I'd like to be 24 or even 34 instead of 64, but I passed my second class physical last week and I'm happy.
Buck
Terrific, glad it all worked out fine, and safe.
Mike
