    Nome City Strip Transient?

    Hey Nome Guys!

The current supplement shows transient parking at Nome, but makes no mention of transient at Nome City. I'm going to assume this is true, but would rather hear the truth from a local.

To transient, or not to transient, that is the question!

I'm nearly positive that there aren't any of the pretty green cones at the city field. I'm driving past there to work in about 10 minutes, so I'll be sure to double check.
That being said, there seems to be several instances of "new" planes in and out of there for short times, and I know that all the spots are not reserved.
How long of a stay are you looking at?

Weather permitting of course, I should be there Sat or Sun, leaving back to Birchwood no later that July 4. Right now I'm burning vacation time waiting for the Ak range to clear up.

There are quite a few open spots at City. Take your pick. Jay

If the weather stays sour, I'll just have Ak Airlines drop me and my fishin rod on some gravel bar...do they run 35 inch BWs?

    Joe-

Is your plan to come up and fish? The dollies are still having a feeding frenzy with the pink fry, I don't think we have much for salmon running yet, although the pinks will be moving in here any time and it should be a pretty decent chum year. Kings are starting in Unalakleet and the Fish River (Golovin/White Mountain) but not super-strong at this point. My son (two and a half) caught his first fish a week ago, a 23 inch dolly. I guess the other thing we really have going for us now is protection from those pesky UV rays. Another great option would be to fly out to Serpentine Hot Springs while you are here.
We'll look for the 12 on city field when the weather picks up!

Just stepped off AK air at Uncle Ted's. Never made it past Unk with the 12. The weather up the coast was horrible. Even the locals marveled at how bad and how long the fog was. Oh except today July 4 when I'm scheduled to go home. The fishing was great for this time of year. Had tons of fun. Planning on taking Penair to UNK this Sat, if weather is good, to retrieve the 12. And pay the transient fees!

Planning to come back in Aug for silvers!!!!! And maybe an instrument rating! My buddy flies for Bering air, even he was grounded.

Yes, that was one heck of a bum stretch of weather. A lot of pilots were sitting around. My brother (another Bering Air pilot) was down in Unk with you reeling in the kings. Like you said, it is beautiful weather now. A few of us are getting suckered into it and heading up north of Kotzebue tomorrow (Kivalina/Wulik Rivers) for the big char. We'll probably get weathered in, but we gotta try. We'll post photographic evidence upon return.

Silvers in Unk/Nome in August are going to be great. The runs are extremely strong this year, gonna be a hoot.

    Simon,

A guy down here showed me some pics of the char north of Kotz. Those things kicked sand in the face of most salmon!

Is your brother Captain Kirk? I talked with him quite a bit in UNK. He showed me the 140, very nice. He also let me sit left seat, on the ground of course, in the Caravan, also a very nice plane.

There were a few hours of sun on the 26th or 27th. I watched what was a cub type plane, blue and white, doing slow flight in the Nome River/Dexter area. I suddenly became very jealous!

    Joe

oh yeah, wuluk is now on my list, have fun, fly safe! Post pics
