    Jack King on Kodiak

Any of you Alaska guys know Jack King in Kodiak. I"ve chartered his boat for a deer hunt this November.

Used to be the Wrestling coach at the Kodiak High School. Used to commercial fish around Kodiak. Has been chartering in Kodiak for quite a while. Used to have a reputation for running a pretty good operation but I haven't been around there for some years now.

Hard to miss with the deer hunt there unless weather prevents you from moving around (winds were clocked at 90+ mph at the Kodiak boat harbor this past week). You have to get out around a cape that can take a beating in the winter. Have watched the ferry Tustemena disappear in wind, sea and spray not 1/2 mi off that cape. Just expect that weather may play havoc with your schedule. Always nice when you're wrong and the books you brought go unread. Used to hunt by boat and foot in Uganik, Viekoda and Uyak bays. Limiting out was not a problem. Was hunting for the dinner table not trophies. Hard to call a Sitka Blacktail much of a trophy since it's about the size of a large dog. Sure tastes good though. Stalked by a Kodiak Brown Bear on more than one occasion, even at Christmas time. Left a wounded deer to one when it got there ahead of a fellow hunter tracking it down. Wasn't going to compete. Gunshot means dinner bell on Kodiak. Gets the blood pumping. Enjoy the hunt.
