    Jury Struts

    Hello all
We are installing our(Univair) jury struts on Univair's sealed struts, and are wandering if most people apply some type of tape or rubber under the clamps that hold the assembly together? Also if the jury struts are mounted 90 deg to the wings the main struts are bowed up a little. If the main struts are installed straight then the jury struts are angled a bit and the aft main strut is bowed forward . This forward bow is caused by the taper between both main struts and the connecting tube (small round tube) is moved up the taper and isn't long enough at this higher position. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you have the jury struts in the right position. The front jury strut is a bit longer than the rear one. The jury struts are pretty much perpendicular to the ground.

As John said, plus make sure your main struts are straight, your jury struts and interconnect tubes are the right length. Also, recheck your wing rigging. Slide the jury strut clamps up or down a little if needed but don't let them bow the main struts in any direction. After flying for a while and confirming that your rigging is OK, you can cut the jury struts and/or interconnect tubes to get a good vertical / fore and aft alignment.

If all struts are the correct length but the interconnect is too short when installed, you might have wing jig problem. A small amount is no big deal, but you'll need longer interconnect tubes.

Also, keep in mind that if you have HD rear struts, they need clamps to match (not the same size). Don't know about Univair, but Airframes supplies new clamps with their HD struts.

Anything you put under the clamps will trap water and, any rust under that padding will be hard to detect. My $0.02

    Thanks Guys
All struts and clamps were purchased at the same time from Univair. We've noticed the two lengths. We'll check the rigging once more, know the wings are covered!

Ditto what TJ said. I used that colored vinyl tape between the clamps and struts.
