    PA 18 Skylight installation

What is the best method of installation of skylight. Do you use the felt donuts for the front and back as well as the middle or do you use silicone?

What felt donuts are you referring to? The skylight lays on the front channel and then the windshield covers it in front, secured by screws through a metal strip. The back is secured by screws also with a metal strip. I don't use anything in the back. Usually don't use anything in the front either. If I do by chance get one that leaks a bit, i'll use a thin strip of weather seal between the windshield and skylight. Don't use silicone as removal becomes harder when its time to change one or the other.

I had some screws through mine that went into the birdcage. I used nylon washers on top and a tiny dab of silicone caulk between the tubuing and the plexiglass. Be carefull about how tight you turn the screws.

I saw a SC with original top glass and it had some 1/8" thick round felt pads the glass sat on with screws and a big washer holding the glass down in the middle of the birdcage. I couldnt tell if there was felt under the glass in the front or the back. Palhal
