Wanted to provide a write up on the Thomasville Fly-in. Since I'm still several years from ownership, I drove down Friday night. I arrived just as the rain was coming in. I set up camp and saw that it appeared perhaps 60 (I'm probably super optimistic) were already in town. Saturday morning I awoke, dried water out of my tent and looked outside to see the airport was socked in. Saturday morning I saw one arrival a Cessna 195 flying IFR -- even that was borderline since the ceilings were so low. Saturday afternoon I went in to Tallahassee sat in the rain, and watched the less than fabulous FSU vs. Miami football game. Saturday night again there was no flying going on. Sunday morning the field was still socked in in the afternoon it became MVFR and some tried to get out to scud run home others remained for additional camping while trying to wait out the weather. As you can imagine the flying activities were curtailed and I believe that the spot landing competition was cancelled.

There were some nice planes around the field. I'd say I saw about 5 or 6 j3's a couple of pa-12s and a couple of pa-18s. About the same number of Cessna 195's and quite a few of the more modern cessnas and pipers. There was a comanche 400. The most rare plane that I saw in Thomasville this weekend was a 1938 Cessna Airmaster C-38. the owner had a great knowledge about his plane which he owned since the 60's and he demonstrated the C-38's interesting hydrolic flap system-- its merely a drag producing flap (a big rectangle that comes down between the main gear.)
