Anybody know of any good Super Cub books out there?

    Hey everybody,

I'm BIG into reading about bush flying. I was wondering if anybody knew of a good book about Super Cubs?

PIPER "A Legend Aloft" by Ed Phillips should be in everybodies library.
The two videos on supercubs are a must too. Supercub Hardcore and Hardcore II. They're as good as anybook and you get to be a couch potato.

Although its not a supercub book or one about the mechanics of flying cubs, I'd suggest Flight of Passage by Rinker Buck. Its memoir about two brothers flying a cub from New Jersey to California in 1966. I'd like to know which type of cub they flew. On the cover it appears to be a picture of a pa-18 so I think that is a mistake. Inside they talk about it being an 85 hp cub and the few photos inside have what appears to be a full cowling. The cowl makes it look different from a j3 but it still has the front back seating and they mention that the plane was 28 years old when they made the flight but that would put it back in j3 vintage. Anyways good book though not as hardcore as the supercubs videos.

My favorite and an absolute "must read" is "Wager with the Wind" by Greiner. It's the story of Don Sheldon and although not every adventure in the book is in a Supercub it's the Supercub that did the absolute most amazing feats.

Well, I'd have to give credit to that adventure in the Aeronca Sedan floatplane too but I don't want to spoil the book for you

    READ IT

great book a must read for everyone! My better half and i went to Alaska this june 03 and went to talkeetna met Holly. Don's daughter who has restored his supercub. we both rode in it and i got to fly it!!! Great time we spent 3 days in Talkeetna. Had a great time landed on the glaciers on Denali both at base camp for the climbers and at the Ruth glacier cabin Don Sheldon built. WE had a super time and caught lots of kings on the Nushagak River. :P

Good quality used and out-of-print books can be found at Title Wave Books in Anchorage. Phone 888-598-9283. www.wavebooks.com

I've ordered out-of-print books from them before, and they will keep track of a request for you.
