    Sticking disc brake

    Hi all,

One of my cleveland disc brakes is sticking, i.e. not completely releasing. Is there a specific solution?

    Thanks,

You probably have magnesium calipers. The aluminum pistons corrode in them, and they bind. Remove the caliper, than remove the pistons from it. Clean the caliper bores and pistons. This may require light honing to get all the corrosion off. Reassemble with new o-rings. If your calipers are severely corroded, replace them with aluminum calipers. (A "A" after the Cleveland part number means the part is aluminum instead of magnesium, as in, 30-60A.)

Thanks, Mark. I'll check it out this weekend.

I am having the same problem with BOTH of my brakes. We put new pads on 20 hrs. ago and had no problems until the last two flights. At first I thought it might have something to do with ice. I took the pucks out tonight and found no problem with corrosion. The parking brakes seem to be releasing okay. Could I have the wrong pads? Is it possible to over fill the master cylinders? I must have messed up something, but haven't found it yet.

Sorry. I just found another thread that I think may answer my question. I should have searched longer.

Thanks for the reply T.J. The pins aren't corroded. I will check the alignment. The holes for pins in the torque plate may be worn. I should mention that I have stock scott master cylinders.

I lubricate the pins at least at annual if not before with silicone spray lubricant. It lubricates but doesn't attract dirt. The Parker/Hannifin(Clevland) rep. told me what to use.
