ski operations, which prop to use

Which prop are you guys using for ski operations. Standard or Borer. Somewhere I read that the borer doesn't work well at altitiude, but can't find that reference again. (must be dreaming again)

    Prop

A Borer prop works well everywhere when compared to a Sensenich stock prop. At altitude I would reccommend a steeper pitch like a 82/44 or on a strong 160 hp engine. On a 150 hp engine a 82/41 or 82/42 is a good choice. It's a trade off, do you want it to pull harder out of the hole or run a little faster at cruise? I had an 82/42 on a strong 160, it would get off in 150' but only cruise at 85 mph @ 2400 rpm. My opinion is 41 & 42 pitch for the 150 and 43 & 44 pitch for the 160. Now watch the opinoins fly.... ski plane prop

Since I run a 150, sounds like 82/42 would work well. And 3" extended heavy duty gear to get enough prop clearance.

Yeah, what Crash said. Crash, I can't imagine much argument on your recommendation.

M1, the 3" extended gear give you prop clearance AND an angle of attack increase, a valuable commodity on an a/c like the Cub that will fly at much higher angle of attack than where stock, or even 3" or 6" ext. gear 3-point attitude sets it....especially important when operating a ski design endowed with a "less than average" pedestal height.

I keep the pitch on the 150HP at 41". I'm interested in "out of the hole" performance...And have that prop checked before you put it on. Even if it's brand new out of the box....Ask me why!
