C'mon, guys. Nobody hunts anymore?

I do. It was a great stalk but the animals still busted us. The shot was at 300 yards in a 35G50 crosswind. Hardest shot I ever decided to take. F--k I love this stuff!

How to make an old man run 1-1/2 miles with a 40# pack on his back. Good times!

I just fish. It's kind of exciting the way I do it.

PWS? How deep?

Not too deep. The wind and current had us drifting fairly fast so as I recall 150 or so with a lot of line out. They were back to back. My wife caught the one one on the right at 60lb and mine was 80lb.

Nice boo by the way!!!

That is such a beautiful ram! Nicely done! It looks like I am not going to make it in time for a sheep hunt with my cub, but possibly still salvage my caribou hunt.

From the Kvichak River last week. Caught and released around 160 fish, and one fish caught me. A fair trade.

My daughter (who turned 8 a month ago) harvested her first caribou this year. I am a proud Dad.

Ouch !!!!
I need to know how you got that out???
Super simple. I was introduced to the technique in the early 1990's when I was a professional bass fisherman. It was at a ProAm and my amateur partner for the day slammed a crankbait into the back of my head first thing in the morning, burying both treble hooks. I had him cut the crankbait off at the split rings and fished the rest of the day. After weigh-in a friend said he'd heard of a new technique. I laid face down on the front deck of the boat, the B.A.S.S camera crew zoomed in and my friend went to work:

1. Put a loop of heavy test line, 20lbs+, around the curve of the hook below the shank. Get a good grip on both ends of the line.
2. Push down as far as you can on the eye of the hook with the thumb of your other hand. This levers/rotates the hook point so the barb is now behind the shank so it won't catch any meat on the way out.
3. Give a quick, sharp tug on the line and the hook flies right out- easy, smooth and pain free.
4. Go back to fishing. :)

Fish barbless hooks. There's no reason to use barbed hooks this time of year. Removing them is easier than clipping the eye and pushing the hook through, which is what most guys do.

Great river. Nice fish.
