I built a CH701 in 2003 for my son to build flight time towards his pilot career. It had the Rotax 912S 100hp engine. IMHO, this engine is the best match for this aircraft. This engine is smooth, safe, and very powerful. I have seen some guys struggle with understanding the dry oil sump and...
(How many degF rich of peak are you running below 2250 and above 2300?)
Dogday
I have only checked the FFM while changing throttle settings and leaning for cruise. Fuel flow goes up with throttle nut MPG stays pretty constant. I'm breaking in 9.5:1 pistons now and I'm looking forward to see...
My fuel flow meter is tied in to my GPS. With my Cub, I get the same miles per gallon between 2250 RPM to 2400 RPM. The MPG goes up below 2250 RPM and down above 2400 RPM.
I used to worry about the airport administration here at Thun field. Now that Carey Gray is on our board of directors, I guess I feel like I have diplomatic immunity!
I really love to see the Highlander guys constantly looking for improvements. They seem to be really grass roots with improvements coming from the field. The same thing goes for all of the improvements the Cubcrafter group have developed. The engineered improvements from them are amazing. The...
I have VG's on the wings but not under the tail. I didn't want rocks knocking the VG's off the tail and taking the paint and fabric with it. I flew my cub like that for about 300hrs.
I put the gap seals on this weekend and the difference is dramatic. I'm able to land a bit shorter with them. I...
I ordered an experimental set today.
DW's been recommending them for a while now. I have vg's on my wings but I didn't put the vg's under the tail. I didn't want rocks knocking them off under there.
I kind of hope they don't work. That way, I have something to bitch at DW about every time I...
My ECI cylinders came with a note saying something like:
" this cylinder is ready to install, but if you think you know more about our cylinders than we do, do your thing."
I resisted the temptation to pull the piston out. I can't say I've ever heard of an ECI cylinder being assembled...
I just wanted to give credit to Craig Catto for taking it on himself to change out my 82x41 prop.
I had one of the originals and it was a great prop without any problems with the exception of the original
nickel leading edges have been improved. The new prop he sent me is absolutely flawless...
" it will indicate 92 mph at 2450 rpm and 105 mph at 2700 rpm"
Interesting Darrel, I have a 160hp, 82/41 Catto prop, 31" bushwheels, vinyl bungee covers, and this exhaust.
I get 92mph at 2450 and 98 mph at 2700 rpm. Must push too much air above 92mph.
Binty. Be careful not to get anything on the float balls. They can stick causing a straw effect. Your gauges could show 1/4 tank of fuel remaining after you have demonstrated your gliding skills. My fuel gauges no longer have float balls in them. I have read about that situation on this list...
I'm glad the damage was minor. I've been told it is better to run off the end of a gravel bar into the water than it is to nose over in the gravel. This one flipped in the water and didn't get hurt very bad.
I dislike the wiggling motorcycle headlights a little bit more than the harsh blinking LED wig wag lights. Both of them kind of bug me for some reason. The slow wig wag lights with stock lamps look much more graceful.
A bunch of us used to go to SnF every year when I lived in the southeast. We would make plans months ahead. We had a ball and it seemed like every year was better than the last one. Then, all of a sudden, it seemed like the place was being controlled by prison guards. I'm sure the EAA felt like...
Another great thing about the stock location is the bug line is lower on the L.E. wing so they VG's don't collect bugs. I am sure they did alot of testing but they use the PA-18 template on other wings. I found mine at a swap meet. They were labeled for a Titan tornado. Turned out to be exactly...
