The original question was if a Supercub would make a good first airplane. I would say, YES, and I would pass up all J3/PA11 etc and just go for as good a PA18-150 that you can afford.
I started off flying gliders, and flew gliders for 14 years before getting the cub. I still fly gliders, mainly cross country and contest flying.
I agree, getting a glider rating is the best thing...
Thanks for sharing
After reading this thread, I did the 0.041 safety wire in both directions, way better than what I had before, 0.030 in one direction only.
Thanks,
Mike
Nice, but really too small. There is a tcart around here with a 540 in it, never even gets on the step.
Univair had them. No problem taking mine apart and replacing the ring
Yeah sure; ride it out, maybe you would want to put in a downwind turn at the same time. Don't believe everything you read.
You can do a lot for yourself by really observing the environment and...
Logan: you need to become a glider pilot!
Logan: For sure, you can find updrafts and down drafts over all types of terrain. In your area on a hot summer day, there are often lots of updrafts or thermals and corresponding downdrafts. I often...
Excellent, thanks for sharing.
A tach cable that does not have enough lube or the correct lube is probably the most likely reason for a jumpy tach. Mine was like this once, and the cable was pretty dry, once it was lubed the...
I'll have to look at my notes, but from memory these are the results when I first started flying with the new engine and did some testing.
I get very similar climb rate at 60, 70 and 80 mph, these...
Logan: Here is how I see it, others may disagree
The efficiency of the prop, either 41" or 44" pitch is probably about the same
Your engine will make about the same HP as any other engine for the...
You really need to compare IAS against fuel burn. From my experience you will see the same fuel burn rate if you were to fly at the same IAS as your original pitch. Same RPM with a 44" compared to...
I have the dark lens on the outside and yellow on the inside of my Gallet. Problem with the inside lens is that I wear glasses, and the inner yellow lens is very close, too close. So I don't normally...
From my experience with stock props at different pitches, borer props at different pitches, even a completely different engine (150 hp to 180 hp), they all will burn about the same fuel per hour at...
One more reason to wear a helmet. Another fatality with a head injury.

Logan: Take a close look at the forecast upper level winds. You can often chose a altitude where the winds will help, sometimes being at a higher altitude will get you a good tail wind.

Logan: My experience is that you will see very little difference in cruise speeds between the two props - given the same fuel burn rate. With the distances between fueling stops on the Yellowknife...
Logan: Yes I know the spot, guess I'll have to miss this one. Wow, that sounds like a great party. Post photos would be great.
I did go flying today, cold front setting in with a few snow showers...
ETA! Got any open water up there? I am still on floats, but will probably switch to skis soon. My schedule is busy until the end of February, then maybe a trip to Nimpo would work (next time I'll...
Logan: Nice mofowker! I hope Mary and you had a great Christmas with family and friends. How is the snow, got enough for some good sledding yet?
Mike
Calendars arrived today. Great job Steve.

I have impulse couplings on both mags, and have been starting on both mags for the past 10 years. So far no problems.
