Dan’s Aircraft Repair finishes AK Airmen’s raffle plane

It looks just like any other Supercub.

Who will win Valdez? Most people on this site know !!!!

Is Jerry Burr going to be there this year? Looking at the results from last year he walked away from every plane there in every class with his take-offs and was darn close on landing. I wouldn't want to give him a second chance on the landings, I saw him land pretty short at Gulkana.

    200 horse Husky project

How do these glass cockpit instruments work in the cold? For example, if you leave the plane parked out doors for few nights at 25 below and do a quick preheat on the engine with out warming up the cockpit do the displays still work?

Wayne, Will you be bringing the SQ2 to Anchorage for the trade show and on to Valdez for the competition?

Slotted Extended Wing / Alpha Cub???

Thanks mvivion, I am humbled that I would try to describe the "moose hunter" stall in such simple terms. I certainly agree that it is the consequence of a COMBINATION of things, both aerodynamic and pilot induced and maybe a little bad luck. You stated what I was hoping to get across to...

Slotted Extended Wing / Alpha Cub???

Can someone please verify the correct technique for getting into a moose hunter stall? My understanding it that it is not so much a crossed controlled turn, but rather it is a low altitude skidding turn performed trying to make a tight turn over an object on the ground using lots of rudder and...

Slotted Extended Wing / Alpha Cub???

I am wondering if the stock wing is preferred for 180 hp Cubs that operate on wheels, floats, skis & wheelskis at altitudes between 3500 ft MSL and 6500 ft MSL. and never operate under 2000 lbs?

    Valdez competition results for 2007?

After reading these post I was under the assumption that Paul Clause won the experimental STOL competition at Valdez in the Carbon Cub. I was surprised to see the winner was the owner of the Carbon Cub Doug Keller who beat Paul by a significant margin. Paul's average distance for the combined...

    Best wing tips

Hi Jerry, Not all that "STUFF" about Wing Tips is available from a search. You never posted the results or amended your original Wing Tip test to include the Crosswinds STOL tips. I have all the emails with the data you first reported. The Crosswinds tips appeared to provide the slowest STOL...

"Hot Rod" Cub debuts at Trade Show

Temperature is also a consideration. It could vary 30-40 degrees from morning till noon. What I like best is that this is a true gentleman's competition and with the variables anyone can win. There is really no incentive to risk damaging your plane to land short. All you really win is bragging...

"Hot Rod" Cub debuts at Trade Show

Thank you Fabman and kase. No more guessing as to the weight of Paul Claus's Supercub. This is a great site!!!

"Hot Rod" Cub debuts at Trade Show

Weight is very important when combining the landing distance with the take-off distance to win a short field competition. It would be really helpful for spectators if they were to weigh each plane before the competition in Valdez. The weights could also be used to establish an excellent baseline...

Valdez May Day Fly-In & Airshow

Does anyone know if any of the past record holders for short take-off and landings from the Gulkana competitions will be in Valdez this year? I would love to see the theory that "stock wings are better" tested against those gentleman at sea level.

    PA-12 Vs PA-18

If you have been fortunate to own or fly a Charly Center built 180 hp PA-12 you may be surprised how well a PA-12 can perform. Starting with a new fuselage a Crosswinds built PA-12 will cost about the same as having someone build a new wide body PA-18-180. The two planes will be equal in weight...

    PA18 vs. PA12 Anphib

The PA-12 can be a great plane. I only wish someone had the money to increase the gross weight to 2500 lbs. The Pa-12 fuselage when modified with dual door post and the X-brace is very strong structurally. I would regulary fly my Crosswinds PA-12-180 on floats at 2500 lbs. and it performed...
