Just spoke with Rob @ Montana Float. They have a set of 2200 amphibs in stock (390-395lbs installed). Production has slowed to a crawl while he and his biz partner await finalization of company acquisition from the deceased owner's executor. Should have more word by end of June. Once that's...
How did your 2200 floats come out? I’m considering the 2400 amphibs for our 1,200lb Legend Cub, but after just finishing the plane last June am dragging my heels on building more instead of being out flying!
In our experimental 18, about 58.5g. Definitely not 61g.
As others have written, flight attitude will affect it.
Most important is to ensure the sight tubes are installed properly and not trapping fuel at the bottom, leading to false impressions of onboard fuel. See install instructions.

Dunno - that’s just what I was told by a guy who knows ‘em better than I do. I’ll have a good Cub mech here in AK take a look during upcoming annual for any issues.
Our 2023 Legend AL18 MOAC build is much stiffer on the controls than the PA18’s I’ve flown. Darin Hart (Legend company owner) said it’s due to being a faster, burlier bird with more control forces at work. It does become easier to stick around when slowed up.
Max, in addition to being an aviator, had a keen sense of local history and a great memory. I hadn’t seen him for a few years before we had supper together in Sept ‘22. Wonderful stories and reflections that evening. All of us from Greenville will miss you, Max. RIP.
Thanks, Stewart.
Yes, you’re right - geometry was the factor. Once we corrected the valve guide angle by reboring and resleeving guides on proper X/Y axes, all the rest lined up and the faces are now hitting properly. Essentially the guides were off center.
Just an update on this PPonk build- we had to pull all six cylinders in July 2022 and rebore/replace the valve guides to straighten them, as they were deemed to be off-axis and causing hyper-accelerated wear. Rocker arms and valves had to be replaced as well due to wear. Manifested in leaking...
Depends on your mission.
I now regret our Sensenich ground adjustable instead of a constant speed MT or similar. We’re often loaded to gross and at the back of the cg envelope (even with a cargo pod). A nose heavy CS prop would make my hauling easier.
Fortunately our engine was built to...
I bought a pair of these for Holly-pup and gradually got her used to them with short term wearing + treats. Happy to report that she keeps them on in the Cub. Definitely seem to work as I have to call her a few times and louder in order for her to respond when wearing them.

LIFT helmet serviceability
I am sending a brand new LIFT carbon fiber shell helmet back to their factory for rebuild due to partially severed wiring of the Lightspeed mic wire, which they installed in rats nest fashion @ factory. Not impressed with their QC after months of delays in shipping it...
