We only have till 6/24 to comment please read below and take a few moments to comment. 8 wonderful airstrips depend on your support.

There are several airstrips in Colorado that are in the public comment phase for a RMP with the BLM. While the strips have been given recognition as a whole, there are 4 alternatives to the Travel Management Plan. The Alternatives suggest road closures that could affect some of the airstrips if the airstrip in considered part of the trail. The only alternative that doesn’t affect any of the strips is Alternative “A” which is not the preferred alternative but rather the current alternative that is in place. We desperately need comments to the below addresses stating that you are a pilot that enjoys the outdoors for recreational purposes you support Travel management alternative “A” or you would like to see the following airstrips excluded from the proposed travel management Alternatives since the airstrips are small slivers that coexist alongside the trails but are not part of the trails themselves.

Dolores Point
Hubbard
Little Dolores
West Creek Bluff
Arrow Head Camp airstrip
Calamity Camp Airstrip
Flattop Mesa Airstrip
Blue Mesa Airstrip

Make sure to add that personal touches that include why you like aircraft access to the outdoors. That most pilots are responsible and follow outdoor ethics guides, and that aviation is extremely low impact compared to many other forms of outdoor recreation.

A lot of knowledge here. How about this -

Couple days ago I finished my weekly series of slow rolls with a four point roll to the right. Immediately after rolling right side up, the engine decided to run really, really rough. I was sure I was landing out.

i checked the mags carefully - no change. I turned the boost pump on - no change. I opened the alternate air - no change. I varied the prop and MAP - nothing. If I looked at the fuel pressure gauge, I do not remember anything anomalous ( I do not recall looking).

Then it simply smoothed out.

Do you think it is possible that I just got a slug of air sucked in via the flop tube in the header tank? I have never had this happen before, but most of my hesitation rolls are to the left.

And yes, I am looking for contamination and cleaning injectors, but so far everything looks perfect.

For the past 11 years, whenever someone asked me "When is it gonna fly?", I have always said, "I guess it'll be a Tuesday". Today we had erased so much of the to-do list that we held a firm belief that PA-12 OY-CLL might fly. Today being a Tuesday, we decided that we might as well give it a try.

Mark Drath told me years ago that - compared to the Champ I have flown for the past 15 years - the PA-12 would feel like a rocket ship. It did!!
My oil cooling is locating like on the picture and I am asking if is it a good place or not because when I am climbing, "cold" air doesn't go through the cooler I guess....

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been MIA; it's getting difficult to update all the forums, but I wanted to let you know where I am these days with my airplane hitchhiking project!

As of writing this, I just hitched a flight from Kitty Hawk to Norfolk, VA (state #27) and am trying to head north. I still have a handful of states in New England, the middle of America, Hawaii, and Alaska left. Those last two should be challenging but I'm going to try to make it to Oshkosh again this year so we'll see what happens from there. I really want to do some more back country flying! My favorite flights so far have been in Mississippi and New Mexico on taildraggers :)

For those of you who aren't familiar, I am a travel writer who is hitchhiking on general aviation planes in an effort to visit all 50 states. I started in July 2012 and am blogging about the adventure on JetHiking.com and a book is in the works.

Speaking of the website, I just re-launched JetHiking dot com so it should look much better on all those smartphones! I'm still working out a few kinks, but it's getting there. I also bought a Go Pro camera so I'll be video blogging very soon. I'm editing a hang gliding video right now.

I had a blast at Sun N Fun in April, and have been hanging out in South Florida for the month of May working as a bartender and as a deckhand on a sailboat so I have the funds for part two of the journey.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with the trip and for all of your kind e-mails and support!

The adventure continues....
Amber

Wanting to chase some hot oil temps on Grandpa's SuperCub. Looking for the quick/easier (cheaper) solutions to start. OAT 85F-90F and 3000ft yields 225-235F on the oil. Running Aeroshell 15W50. CHT with under-plug ring style probe ranges 400-420CHT, which I may upgrade to the thread-in probe in the future. This is a 150hp Cub.

It has old felts on the baffling, and I'm going to check how leaky they are with a lightbulb. I'll consider replacing them, or upgrading to silicone type or McFarlane's cowl saver material. Question: Is there a template I can find to cut new baffle seals to pop-rivet on the current baffles?

Also would like to seal up around the nose-bowl mounted oil cooler to clean up airflow. It has the lower quality Westach gauges which I will check probe temp with boiling water.

Any other things to look at? I have searched the forums and learned a good amount. I figured after cleaning things up I would go on to replacing the vernatherm, then onto replacing the original oil cooler with the Niagara direct replacemet if I don't have much luck. I'd like to work smaller $ items then work my way up since it's not *my* airplane. (Insert spoiled brat comment here).

Was invited to visit a beautiful camp in the Talkeetna Range, and flew in to a 1000' gravel bar. My friend landed first and unbeknownst to me, shot a video of my first "off airport" landing! As I was making my approach my friend said "ok, these rocks are gonna look big to you, but your tires can handle it!" My intent was to low approach and drag the wheels, but it looked good so I stuck with it.
