Longeron Splice

What size tube are you using to splice a 3/4 X 0.035 longeron? The PA-20 plans ( I assume all the pipers are the same ) calls for tube that is 0.660 X 0.035 wall. I haven't found a source.
The next size down is 5/8 and that would leave a .055 gap between the longeron and splice tube. Seems like a lot. I could make some bushings with a .025 wall. I could use shim stock. I could turn down thick wall 3/4 tube to fit.

What are other doing?

Thanks
Marc

There is 11/16 4130. Not common, but available. Get .049 wall, turn down .015 and it will fit just right.

Burl's Aircraft as well as Atlee Dodge has some.

Take care,
