Bending longerons to tailpost, X-brace?

When forming the longerons to the tailpost do I just heat red hot and bend or do you make a notch in the tube first? At what location does the X-brace go from center of post and size of tube do I use?

Yes notch the tubes, then "heat n beat" to form around the rear portion of the tailpost. I dont know if I would bother with the x-brace: It will reduce tail flutter during run up/take off but ive seen bad things happen when guys do a power turn and hit something hard (ie. a snow drift).

Brace is 3/8"
