Just got an email from Wicks Aircraft Supply that they are now stocking more 4130 tubing. Checked their prices against Aircraft Spruce and even with my dealer discount at Spruce Wicks is cheaper. I have always had excellent service out of Wicks as well. Just a FYI.

I don't know Wick's source but I have some tubing from them that is asian made. I go to Wick's for will call, they are only 3 hours down the road from me and I don't have to worry about a truck line damaging my shipment. I only buy mill lengths to avoid all those wind chimes and make longerons without splices. Their prices are good and their wood spar and stringer stock is probably the best for a catalog supplier.

I have seen some of that tubing as well. Has a funny smell when you weld it also.

I need to stock up as they make great "sound suppression" devices. Kinda heavy, but very stout and it's easier to run internal threads in 4130 than in aluminium.

Steve, do you mean that it does not smell like 4130? That would make me nervous enough to question whether it was really 4130.

There has been some bogus tubing. I look for the USA mills stamps down the side.

Good info Steve, Does the Wicks tubing have the Made in USA markings?

I don't know as I have not ordered tubing from them in a while. I get a lot of my tubing (22-24' sticks) from a friend who works at Air Tractor and had been getting 6' pieces from Spruce. Next time I need some I will call Wicks and verify.

You can barely read the mill markings from the wick's supplied tubing. I haven't seen any U.S. mill markings. Wick's has been cheaper in the past on their tubing and I think the reason is because of where they are getting it. As far as the appearence, it is lighter in color perhaps due to their parkerizing process. As far as U.S. supplied 4130 we are running out of choices.
