Hi Folks, there was about an hour yesterday when SuperCub.Org and a bunch of other sites were down. The big hosting company here in KC - actually the company that "hosts" our host, had one of its sites attacked with what is called a denial of service attack (dos). Basically, this means that the attacker - usually through software that has been sereptitiously installed on thousands of computers around the world - tries to access as site at one time. SuperCub.Org or the other sites were NOT the target of the attack, but since we live in the same neighborhood so to speak we were effected as the attack was nearly 10GBPS (yes, I typed that right, gigabits per second, not megabits). That is a lot of traffic.

If you want to read more about DOS attacks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack

T (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack)hanks for your patience. We don't have much trouble around these parts, but believe me I am looking at alternatives now.

Could it be that attacks are created by the same people that sell "protection" services?

Believe it or not we had a ice rink site controller with it's own IP that came under a similar attack from Hackers in the Jinan Province of China. It eventually smoked the port of the controller causing thousands of dollars in Damage. Customer of the three year old system was furious at me. I do not even speak Chinese! You would have thought it was Cliff they were after.
Technology it is great!
