For all you Smith cub builders out there, how did you secure the tank straps? Did you use the threaded rod that the tanks shipped with, or did you come up with a better way. Having a hell of time with those threaded rods. Too tight to turn a nut once everything is in place. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay, I used the threaded rod provided just added a flat washer and AN 365-1032 lock nut to each end and used a AN 316-3r sheer nut as a means of stoping one end while I snuged up the other, plenty of strength with the stainless steel all thread, you will need to trim the end of the all thread after you snug them down for clearance purposes.

Use a 10-32 "missile nut" instead of a nylock.

Thanks Rotto and Dave. I'll continue the struggle. Fuselage went to the airport today, wings to follow next set of days off.

Jay,
Mine came with a 10-32 plate nut riveted to the lower tab with a long stainless cap screw to hold the strap down.

Skywagon,
I talked to CGoldy last night as well, and his came the same way yours did. Obviously a change in the later stuff for obvious reasons. Thanks for the info.

I got r done. A little tricky beings my wings were covered. Used the 10-32 threaded rod and Dave's advice on the "missile" nuts. What a pain in the a$$.
