should stringers touch frame tubing & required clearance

I am building an SQ2. The instructions state that I should bend the stringers so that they don't touch the frame tubes that don't have a bracket. Also, it doesn't say how much clearance is needed.

They suggest that I remove some metal from the stringer so that it can be bent enough to make a turn around the frame at one specific spot.

My questions:
Is it OK to notch out a stringer so that it clears the frame?

How much clearance is needed?

I'm not sure I get the total 'gist' of your question.

However, the idea is to have the stringer make as "fair" of a line as possible from the front end to the back end. ( In other words.....a "smooth" line with no "bumps" in it where it might, or might not contact a frame diagonal). I hope this helps you.
