Gasoline octane tester???

When I recently picked up my Exp Supercub, my IA said that they drained all the auto gas out, and refilled with 100LL. He said that the reason for this was that the auto fuel had gotten pretty old, and the octane had deteriorated to 77. He said that they use the same kind of tester that NASCAR uses to test the fuel in race cars. I've tried to find a tester or testing kit advertised, but don't see anything like that. Does anyone out there know where I might be able to buy a gasoline octane tester?

I used to work in NASCAR (#2 Kurt Bush) and we used this, as well as a hydrometer.
