What are the options for gas welding filler rod? I tried the er70s-2 and didn't like the results. The copper seemed to sizzle and spatter off leaving a very dirty weld. Good thing I was using practice material.

I use the er70s-2, or, er80sd-2 for TIG welding.
For oxyacetylene welds, I have had the best results with RG-45, or RG-60.
Oxweld# 7, or, Oxweld #32CMS, are recommended as well.
Search Gas welding rod, or, gas welding, using the "search for all terms" function, on this site, there is a lot of previous discusion, opinion, and expert advice.

I use RG45 for ox-acet. I clean each rod with acetone and a paper towel. A lot of grime comes off in the cleaning process. Eye and hand protection with proper ventilation suggested when using acetone.

RG45. Easy to find and welds the best IMO. The electric rods act weird with O/A, seem to splatter more and more finicky.

Probably getting some oxidation on the end of the filler rod with ER70/80 series when welding with O/A. Haven't used the O/A in a couple of years I always fire up the Tig machine. Try some different rod and see what works best for you. My recommendation are the same as above. Try the RG series.
