STC SA 02246LA has been awarded for the EZ-Flap manual flap handle extension device. This device allows pilots of manual flap aircraft to reach the flap control without leaning forward, without giving up most of their outward visibility, and without taking their eyes and your focus off of the landing or takeoff zone and surrounding terrain.
Even with an "inertia reel" type shoulder harness, safety is compromised by having to take focus off of flying and leaning forward to grab the flap handle. Pilots flying with "standard" shoulder harnesses are forced to loosen them or simply not use them, which compromises safety even further. The device adds a significant amount of safety and convenience.
EZ Flap is STC approved for Cessna 170-185 aircraft, with Piper PA-18 Super Cubs and Piper PA-28 Cherokees being added this month. Additional aircraft models are under development. The device installs in 30 minutes, requiring only two small 6-32 holes. No de-rigging is required and the original aircraft flap system remains fully functional.
