Question about Lake Hood area

I'm due into anchorage tonight and will be laying over 28 hours. Is it possible to just walk around Lake Hood area and look at airplanes without being suspected taliban? Just want to get out as hotel rooms are a bore.

I don't know the legality of it after the security hysteria after 9/11 but I've done what you are talking about before and since that time. I don't touch anything. It is interesting to see all the different setups and options on the float-equipped cubs there. The Anchorage folks will be able to tell you more. Maybe someone will volunteer to show you around.

You'll have no difficulty walking around Lake Hood, the gravel strip, and the museum. Don't worry - nobody will suspect you of being up to no good.

You may have time to walk around Merrill Field, too. No concerns walking the ramp there, too.

All those "restricted area" signs must be for somebody else, right?
