I need drawings for the Atlee style tail reinforcement. The project I bought does not have it yet and I'd like to install it. Anybody got a drawing or measurements with tube sizes?
Does one need STC's, field approvals or just record of mod, for addition of such fuselage reinforcements.
Or just add them and tell nobody.
In addition to the pictured mod, I'm thinking of tubes above fuse handle, reinforced tailbrace wire tabs, grease jerk on rear stab attach, bushing for tailspring bolt and crossbar above cabin.
This thread was started in the experimental section. In this case it is not required to document or seek approval for such a modification. You would need at least field approval for this if it is used on an aircraft with a standard AW cert.
The box will provide some extra strength, but not much. The problem with the tail is twisting. Usually caused by dropping the tail while in a turn. The "X" is better to prevent twisting.
