Thought this was more or less a dead issue but apparently not.

I think with some of the politicians that might be their goal...

It's called scratching for votes any way you can..... Doesn't make any difference if its true, just demonize someone or something, put all the blame on them, and then its not YOUR or YOUR administration's fault for not fixing it.

The FAA needs to be completely turned around, frankly, and its going to take a President with spine to do it. Ain't any candidates I've seen so far that have that characteristic, on EITHER side.

The ATC system is broke. The FAA fiddles while Rome burns, then tries to find someone to blame. Their constant meddling with specifications, add-ons to radar specs, etc have caused the huge delays in implementation and cost overruns. Now, they want US to pay for "modernization" that most of us will never use. And, the same bureaucrats will meddle some more with THAT system, till it's overrun and delayed, etc.

I voted for Bush twice and at this point in his presidency I am ashamed of both votes.

There's an old saying. "Be careful what you ask for... You just might get it!"

Ain't nothing wrong with ATC. They do a phenomenal job.

The problem is concrete or the lack thereof. We have increased the number of aircraft by a huge margin and are closing airports by the day. Duh...
This is not rocket science. Close two lanes of the freeway and see what happens. Example, 10 years ago, Chicago Midway had about 50 commercial flights a day and some GA. Now due to SWA expansion they are at well over 400, then Daley closed Meigs field and all the corporate acft have no place to go except Midway. So things get crowded and traffic backs up. Duh...

This scenario has been played out all across the US.

ATC has me 3 miles in trail on short final all day long. Can't do any better than that. The problem is we are all trying to use the same piece of concrete and often at the same time (Hub and Spoke stupididity). It is easier to blame ATC because the other issue can't be fixed or changed. No one wants an airport in their backyard and the land is more valuable to the developer. The erosion of airports could be stopped if Congress and the FAA could see the problem. It is not rocket science just common sense. Lets increase the number of cars, let everyone leave work at 5 O'clock, then close two lanes on the freeway. What do you think is going to happen?????

You can modernize ATC all you want. It will not fix the problem.

Catch-22
Build more runways and rebuild the ATC system and the airlines and the corporate operators will just add more flights. The solution, at least short term is to restrict the number of flights. Maybe $100/barrel oil will fix the problem.
I told a pax the other day that was whining about delays that the solution was higher ticket prices. Higher prices, less people will fly, less people fly, fewer airplanes, problem solved
