J JimC Registered User Aug 18, 2006 #3 Wouldn't that give you slightly reduced rudder authority, substantially reduced elevator authority and greatly increased stick forces? I flew an experimental 18 with an O-235 and J-3 elevators last week. The control feel was horrible. JimC

behindpropellers Registered User NE Ohio Aug 18, 2006 #4 I think he means the fuselage tail section. Not the empenage. Im pretty sure the longerons on the J-3 are thinner walled than the PA-18. I do know the longerons on the J-5 are thinner than the PA-12.... Tim
