Sorry for the non cub question but i know someone here will know this. I am rebuilding a 7EC with new metal spars and the owner wants 18gal tanks. IT has 13gal tanks now. I dont know of any stc's for that or if it can be done. Field approval, old 337? Thanks for the help. :)

You can ask Jerry Melhaff at American Champion. Maybe their new tanks can be fitted easily to an EC. The type certificate is the same one, although the big tanks aren't mentioned under the 7EC section, only the 13-gallon wing tanks.

I'm not aware of any STC holders for these. Maybe the metal-spar wings are OK'd for them. It's 'sort of' a safety issue; maybe you can get a field approval...

Another place to ask is over here:

There are sections for both Champs and Citabrias. Jerry hangs out there, too.

Good luck!

I own a 1972 7ECA. Due to windstorm damage, last year I replaced the wings with new American Champion wings. (which by the way are Great!) My old wings had 13 gal tanks. All new wings with the exception of those for the Scout have 18 gal tanks. I suspect that new American Champion Wings for the Champ have 18 gal tanks, but I'm not sure. Call Jerry at American Champion. He is great to work with.
