Hi All,
Prior to the winter N8439Y spent a few days on the ramp at the mechanics shop solving a few squawks from SJ. It had rained to beat the band and when the mechanic went out and started the SC he eventually noticed that the DG and AH were half full of water. I had a conversation with Mark at Thrustline and it was his opinion that the vent flap is installed right above the vacuum Filter...Bingo he was right. He suspects that the rain soaked the filter and through multiple starts and stops for Prop balancing we ingested water. These were the only two instruments or radios affected in the panel. In reading a recent Trade-a-Plane I guess I could Outright change the instruments to the tune of $1500 for the parts.
Does anyone think that these two water logged high tide marked instruments can be economically rebuilt and if so by who?
Thanks for the help
John

John-

Ill have to ask my dad, but there is a mom and pop instrument shop around here that you could send them to to get rebuilt. They will let you know if it would be more economical to repair or buy new. Ill know later today for you.

John, When I got my Cub, it had a full gyro panel in it. I was in the instrument business at the time, and I could have replaced all of the instruments with the latest and greatest. You know what I did? I took the DG and horizon and vacuum pump and vacuum regulator and all the hoses out. I don't recall the exact weight savings, but it had to be in the neighborhood of 8-10 Lbs. I definately will not fly it on instruments, but if I did unintentionally, I have a 2" electric T & B and the Garmin 296 pseudo instruments to help me make my 360, and get the Hell out of here. Good way to save $1,500 and 10 pounds.

I'm going Ron's route when I get around to ordering the engine plate and new screws to put on the engine when the vacuum pump is pulled.
I want to panel mount a 296 and could use the space.
