Cool story about a 1903 Springfield

That is, indeed, a nice story!

I own both an '03 (from 1918) and an M1 (from 1944) rifle. I'd *really* like to find an original 16" bayonet to fit the '03 (it fits both that and the M1). Most were cut down to 10" after the War to end All Wars.

Wow thanks for sharing that story. It always interesting to read about the heros of yesteryears. I hear that some university in Washington State is protesting a proposal to erect a monument to Pappy Boyyington the WWII ace because he killed the enemy. Hells bells the entire state of Washington could be required to speak Japanese if it wasn't for or yesteryear heros.

That is what happens when young people have mommy and daddy buy them an education before they have any life experience.
At 17, I ran off to college before joining the military. I only lasted a few months before a socialist professor threw me out of class for not kissing up to his anti-american ideas. My next proffs were courtesy of the US Navy, US Army, Alaska Air Guard and the police officer college loan fund. They did not wander from the path...

You can bet that the Gunner in this article would not be so confused.

Alex,

Thanks for sharing a great story. I'll bet the ol' Marine has a host of stories he can share.
