Not road kill Erik. They are fresh made flour tortilla's a staple food here and south of the border. You eat these very long and you will need a beaver to fly around in rather than a cub.

Mmmmm. Then I say "Yummy". Merry Christmas from North Pole, Alaska! (make sure to set these out for Santa, unless of course you want to save them for yourself, in which case you should just set out road kill for him instead)

PA-18, Where are you hunting, South of the Border? If spent a good amount of time In Chihuahua, and their Goose/Duck Hunting is World Class... I never imagined that Water foul Hunting could even exist In the High Desert. Way to Cool. I like your question to the Alaska Guys, if they Eat these things up there? (Referring to the tortillas not Deer)... One common Denominator, having spent time South of the Border, and Three years in Alaska, Both Regions certainly partake of their Spirits... Alaska has Good old fashion Whiskey, and of Course the Cure All in Chihuahua is Tequila. REAL Tequila, not Psuedo Tequila Jose Cuervo... What say you guys up North do you Feast on "South of the Lower 48 Border" food up there? Let us know...
Merry Christmas to all Super Cubbers and Happy New Year...

Does anyone know if "Pepe's" World's Farthest North Mexican Restaurant is still open in Barrow? It's been year's since I was up there.

You would be surprised at some of the eateries that you find in out of the way places in Alaska. Those folks that come up here on the lam from somewhere's else gotta make a living somehow!

Don't need tortillas for moose steaks. The propane BBQ grill will work until about 40 below.

PA-18, any time you guys want to fly to this part of Mexico, you will have much better tortillas, good hunting and a lot much more. 600 n.miles from El Paso, a lot to see and a good experience.[/img]

I spent a year working in Queretaro, and highly recommend the town (and the country, for that matter). Great weather, great food, outstanding people (probably the most hospitable folks I've met). And it's all right next door to the US.

Around 1996 I rented a 172 and flew back and forth between Queretaro and Ocotlan. Along the route one passes some remarkable extinct volcanoes, piles of yellow sulphur being mined, and miles of grazing land. It's unlike any terrain I've encountered in the States.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Looks like dried jelly fish  , hot to the toung, but not so filling.

We humble banana belt alaskans shoo the deer from our landing strip, so we find that is is easier to just shoot a small one for camp meat when we arrive, less to bring. After all, it takes lots of trips in the cub to bring five cases of beer for each guy for each day  :drinking:

Bush pilot formula:

alcohol taken into camp will be in a direct inverse proportion to deer flown back from camp!!!!

Merry christmas, and if you have snow, through some around for me please!

We are hunting west of Laredo Tx. We are close to the border as the crow fly's but a couple hours drive into the ranch on some rough roads. This was a buck I was lucky enough to get in the 2003-2004 season. I am planning on a good one this year. Last year I almost got one much better and was hunting him hard when another hunter(a rifle hunter)got to him first. I had two diferent chances but never got the shot.http://sparky.supercub.org/photopost/data/500/medium/RicksCD_3photos016MA13371314-0003.jpg I sure do wish I could take the cub down there to bypass the roads and do some scouting over the ranch but there on the border in Mexico it draws to much atention from everyone.

PA-18,

Congrats on your success with the bow. It is a world of difference and much more challenging than rifle hunting. It makes rifle hunting look like shooting fish in a barrel. I just got my first bow kill two years ago up on the North Slope of Alaska. Ever heard of a "Texas Heart Shot"? Well, that's how I got a nice bull caribou, and out on the open tundra no less (no trees or brush to aid stalking).

Craig found a hole in the wall Mexican place in Graham recently. We have to point to what I want on the menu cause they don't speak English. Everyone in there looks at us kinda funny when we go in but it is awesome food. They make their own tortias daily.

We've had the good fortune to get friendly with the owner of a tiny Mex restaurant in Longview, Wa - La Cabana. Last night he told me his mother (who is visiting him from Mexico) is making a batch of tamales for Christmas, and to come by Monday and he'd have a couple for us. I can hardly wait! To heck with "atmosphere", gimme the great homemade FOOD and personal connection of a tiny restaurant!

If you're in Longview, visit La Cabana, on 15th, next to the NAPA store - you'll never regret it! Tell the owner (waiter), the teacher with the horses sent you - - -

Some of the best restaurant food I've had came from places like that. Mexican in Michigan, BBQ in Chickashe OK, Cajun in many places down in South LA (not the one on the Left Coast).
