Does anyone have any experience with wood spars.... We have a friend who needs a spar splice between the lift strut attach point and the wing root. AC 43.13 can be somewhat confusing on this to me.... any thoughts?

purchase a new blank spar from Wicks and have a local cabinet maker construct new. We did this with a taylor craft. All 4 spars. with metal spars it is not allowable to splice inboard of the strut attach points. If you like I could give you the name and number of the fellow that built spars for us. He built much of a travel air wood wing down here in homer.

Kling Air in Udall, KS makes beautiful Cub spars. No holes to drill. j-3cub@wheatstate.com or 316-782-3523. I have never seen anything saying you can't splice a wood spar inboard of the lift strut. I have found several J-3 spars from the factory this way.

You might also try Joe at Eyak Air in Willow. I know he is very good with wooden spars for Aeronca's. My guess is he does Cub spars also.

Best of luck,

43.13 says you can splice a wood spar anywhere except at the wing strut attach point. I have spliced wood spars inbetween the strut attach and wing attach points, no problem.

43.13 still talks about that "interplane" what does that mean?
