This could be a major step towards approving data to use in major alterations and to update some out of date methods on repairs. In my opinion this is worth everyones time to comment on. I plan to take time next weekend and review my AC43.13-2A and send in some suggestions and comments. Here is our chance to make a difference.
> This EAA e-Notice is being sent to all EAA Technical Counselors and EAA Volunteer AB DAR's.
>
> On June 9, 2004 the FAA issued a request to help review, update, and revise FAA AC 43.13-2A, "Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices - - Aircraft Alterations." This Advisory Circular (AC) provides information to mechanics and repair stations on how to perform simple alterations to non-pressurized, certificated aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds. This AC was last updated in 1977 and contains many procedures that could easily be improved.
>
> The FAA is seeking to include a new policy within this AC, "that would allow mechanics and repair stations to use acceptable data as approved data for major alterations to certain non-pressurized aircraft. The new policy would apply to a land plane, seaplane, float plane, fixed gear aircraft of 6,000 pounds or less maximum gross weight, of 4-seats or less, and with a reciprocating engine of 200 horsepower or less."
>
> EAA has not seen this new proposed FAA policy. But using this proposed policy as a guide, we are requesting your help in reviewing AC 43.13-2A and provide specific ideas where/how this AC could be changed or improved.
>
> We would also like any thoughts as to the proposed FAA policy - do you think it is too narrow, to wide, could be improved. etc.
>
