Ryan:
Thanks for the kind words and checking out the site!
I bought a bunch of pipe foam at home depot and liberally taped it on to the longerons to protect them from "road rash" during transport from the frame shop. I left them on for much of the fuselage work as I shifted the sawhorse supporting the tail several times depending on which section of the aft end I was puzzling over.
It also worked very well when startled by a dog, cat or kid whilst working underneath. Nice to whack your head on foam instead of bare steel.
I originally bought the pipe foam to protect the bow tips and trailing edges from shop rash during the wing rebuild. I am doing this in a 16 by 24 garage, so one tends to bump into things. Worked well and great protection at a very cheap price.
I just uploaded the pics of the fitting out of the interior of the fuselage and will load some of the covering of the fuselage this week. The only shots I don't have are of the tapes going on and when I hung the whole darn thing upside down yesterday to ensure that the bottom tapes went on straight! That was quite a sight.
In fact, today I took it off the rotisserie and put it on wheels and rolled it out into the driveway. Ta-da!!
It's starting to look like a real airplane.
Tonight I start work on the boot cowl and firewall forward. I'll do the tape feathering throughout the week as I find it is best to do a section at a time so I don't rush the whole job and miss a spot.
So far, so good. I've had a lot of fun with this project and encourage others to give it a try. When I'm done I plan to post up a retrospective of the rebuild on this site.
