View Full Version : ski repair
has anyone ever replaced the tube that goes thru the pedestal. I let mine get loose last year and wallowed it out. Just got it ground out but trying to decide what to replace it with. A/C spruce sells the 2 1/4 tubing but is .120 thick. needs to be about .7 thickness. Trying to decide whether to leave it that thick and turning down the bushing. I looked at a couple other skis and they all seem to start belling in that area, so a thicker tube would help.

I have a pair of skis that is in the same condition, I have been putting them on with shim stock material to take up the gap and protect the axle.
I tried to get an aircraft machine shop to bush it for me and they wouldn't touch it. If you bush it you need to make sure it is straight, this can generate more stress on the gear leg than normal. a crooked ski with a crooked bushing that is.

Just had mine replaced at Atlees place.
I have 20 years with Cessna, Maule and Citabria....very light Piper Cub stuff and actually just met Atlee about 5 months ago...yes he has a roar  but he has treated me absolutely 100% first class. :D
Yes he gets backlogged and yes he does too many AOG favors and yes he doesn't have a perfect list of all of his things.......He is busy, he is a businessman.
I have had lots of prying conversations with he and Steve re my 1949 special. I sure appreciate their knowledge and willingness to share. :x-mas: I buy everything I can from him. :usa
If the Feds have their way we will all have to go experimental when people like Atlee pass on and no one steps up to fight for us plane people and our flying machines.
His new shop is GREAT. Should be in by new year or shortly after. :cheers
Chris
