Metal attachments to fabric

I am finding that I am often replacing lost screws at the sites where metal covers are attached to the fuselage fabric. Examples would include the cover surrounding the entrance of the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer to the fuselage, etc. I have tried going up a size in the screws, but am having little luck. Suggestions?

I have cut out aluminum doublers to fit behind the fabric for the screws to go into. It is a pain to get them in place and the first screws started but they stay. If you are real creative you can rivet tinnerman nuts in the aluminum.
