Need input on 7600 process ceconite.
A friend is considering buying a cub with this fabric which is over 15 years old.
Finish is fair but oxidized and some pealing tapes.
What is the best/most common way to rejuvenate / repair / restore this short of taking a knife to it. Think it has a "dope type" finish on it.
What are the drawbacks / advantages to this process? I have heard of fabric becoming loose in cold weather. (loosing tension) Fact or Fiction?
Is it still marketed?

7600 went out of vogue really quickly after its intro. here.
I stay clear of it now due to corrosion problems apparently associated with its water based nature. I hear I'm not alone on this attitude. I'm not so sure that much of the "loose fabric" cause isn't due to guys using heat guns during the fabric tautening process. Lots of guys still do this, and I cringe to think of it.
Any repair of peeling tapes, finish, etc. may be accomplished, but is a losing proposition over time that will eventually drive an owner to recovering....either from embarassment of the way his a/c looks, or from getting sick and tired of finding loose tapes at preflight. 15 years is long enough anyway.
Do yourself, your friend, and your friends mechanic a favor and advise he walk away from this aircraft unless its purchase price is low enough to throw a recover job and corrosion control onto the a/c's value.
Good luck prying your freind away from this deal. I recently advised a "customer" to walk away from a heap, but he already had his mind set when he asked for my opinion and a prebuy. I charged him nothing to let him know, without a prebuy, that the a/c was a bad choice. The poor, unknowing guy bought it anyway, fueled by his group of buddies' enthusiasm for their friend getting into the "180 HP Cub Club".
I feel sorry for him. Seems like a nice guy. You'll all probably get to know him soon, eh?

I know all about pre buy inspections and googly eyed buyers. I always start out with a line of "Do you want the airplane, if yes just give me the money and you have my blessings on the airplane". When they say "WHAT" I tell them about all the other times that I tell guys to walk away and how they try to start selling me on the airplane. That seams to knock the glaze of their eyes a little bit. But not always, sometimes you know they have bought the airplane in their head before they ever call you.
