Pretty cool ad, but is there a different plane for the interior panel shot?

Just to continue my education of planes, what the heck is going on here?

From the outside, it looks like a "cub" to me (I don't know how to tell a PA-12 from a PA-14 from a PA-18 looking at one flying by), but the shots inside the plane appear to be of two seats in the back (PA-12 or PA-14?), but a single seat front (PA-12?). The kicker is the yoke and panel early in the ad, right when he says "I have the best job in the world". (Indeed.)

OK, so what are we looking at? Exterior shots of an AK PA-18, and interior shots of a 206?

Now I'm going to cheat. N3797Z is registered as a PA-18-150 to Ultima Thule Outfitters. I bet they have a 206 too...

Nope, I was wrong, they have a 185. Back seat shots and panel shot is that I bet.

The two passengers are in a Beaver. Same as the panel shot.

Ultima Thule no longer has the beaver in the ad. THey sold it a couple years back, if memory serves me right, and it crashed on floats this summer. THey now are operating a TPE331 powered otter instead which from what I hear is a Helluva plane.

I had the very great pleasure of visiting the Clause's at Ultima Thule in the spring of 1992. I was working at Icy Bay and had my 185 in camp and bumped into the place on a Sunday drive. I returned this year on my 1 month expedition to AK and found the same really neat people living the life very few only imagine!! Paul and John are really great people as are the rest of the family and crew living (year around) at their heaven on the Chitna River. Paul is undoubtably one of the best Cub jocks in the country as evidenced in Supercubs Hardcore II, the video. Their new Otter is beatiful and a real performer. Saw it lift off with a full load in a very short distance. It seemed to levitate into the air, no appearant rotation whatsoever. They've spent the last 10 years moving their lodge, cabins, homes and airstrip up the hill out of the reach of the ever changing Chitna River. A really big project. The Jack ad is great!

PS, As to light weight PA 18's, Paul has a 180 HP 18 substantially under 1000 lbs.

Paul had a Super Cub for sale about a year ago, it had all the right mods and the price was right. Anybody know whatever happened to that Cub, and if it would still be for sale?

Not sure of the whereabouts of the Cub in question.

The Beaver that was previously owned by Ultima Thule was refurbed a couple of winters ago. That thing was used hard and put away wet out there. The new owner wrecked it on WHEELS. I'm involved in the rebuild of the thing and it will do lodge work on floats next season.
