Got a Super Cub and a few days off. Planning to take a trip around Alaska, leaving Anchorage maybe Tues-Weds or whenever the weather gets a little better and returning next Sunday. Anybody got any good ideas?

Thanks

Was up there for a month, 6-14 thru 7-14 and the best place for scenery was Peavine Mine between McCarthy and Glacier Creek. It's not charted but about 10 miles west of Glacier Ck. Don't know how far you want to go but Chandalar Lake and the country NE of there is really neat also. Chandalar is about 200 miles N of Fairbanks. Lots of mining strips and big bent metal. I put in 10,500 miles on my trip up there, and didn't see 20% of it. BIG STATE !!

Slowmover,

Here is a quick list of my favorites:

The Wrangells: Go to McCarthy, or better yet, call the Park Service in Glenallen. They have some cabins that are on airstrips and are available to the public. Give em a call, and explore some of the most spectacular country on the planet. Warning: It's sheep season, so this whole country will be knee deep in testosterone.

Dawson really isn't in Alaska, but it's a great place to spend a day or two. Eagle is right across the border, and an interesting place as well.

The Alaska Peninsula is a fantastic place to spend a day or two, variable to a week. Millions of places to land, wet a line, spend a night or two, and fantastic scenery.

Kodiak is a fantastic place, but difficult for wheel planes. Beaches are often submerged at high tide. That said, there are some fantastic opportunities to be had there.

The Interior is huge, but there are millions of places to go up here as well. Stream levels are high right now, but they are dropping pretty fast, and the further north you go, the better the gravel bars are right now. Less rain to the north recently.

Good luck. If you need any more specifics, give me a hoot off line,

From a weather briefer. Looks like the weather is going to limit your experience. Mvivion has the right answer. The weather is going to dictate which option you take.

Here is where I was in the interior last night.

If you get out and about don't forget your insect dope and a head net ! I was west of McGrath last week had a great time. The trip reminded me how persistant the interior insects can be.
