Getting the top off the control stick

I have to replace the PTT switch on the top of the front control stick, which I think is stock from a '69 PA18. There's a little bulbous bit on the top through which the PTT protrudes, which looks like it should come off the main shaft, but doesn't easily. Is it simply a question of brute force and mole grips or is there some trick I need to know (like -- it looks like it should come off, but it doesn't!)?

It's a long shot anyone can help on the limited info above, but you never know.

Thanks,

David

Hey, BCB, The knob bit is threaded on to a stud welded into the top end of the stick.

It should screw right off.

Be careful with the PTT switch wiring as it will get a bunch of twists in it as the knob comes off.

When I reinstall the knob, I pretwist the PTT wires in order to elimintate the strain of the twists it would normally get.
