I need to buy a set of sealed wing lift struts for my PA-18-150. Aircraft Spruce is selling two types of struts Standard and HD. Have the standard ones been failing? I'm not sure which one to select. Any recommendations? Vidir.

Haven't had any experience with A/C spruces struts so don't know if the standard are the old original type and the heavy duty is the newer ones that cover all the AD's so best to call them and make sure that you get the ones that cover all the Current AD's permanently. Univair also sells struts too. Theirs are a lifetime no AD strut. ( at least until the Alaskans find out how much they can really pack on those struts and they start breaking.) Make sure the forks have a minimum of 5/8 inch thread.

A/C Spruce and Univair only sell the sealed struts for the PA-18 now. The struts sold by A/C Spruce I believe are made by Airframes Inc. and can be purchased directly from them. The front struts are basicly the same it's the rear struts that are heavy duty. It's a little cheaper to purchase the struts directly from Airframes Inc. There web address is www.supercubs.com there parts are very good. :D

Back in the early to middle '80s I used to do the annual floats to wheels to floats change on a red, white and blue (painted like a flag) SC while I was in Spokane... The SC was based in Montana..

The front strut lower attach fiiting had a cable attached to the bolt and to the strut somehow... I suppose this was a safety if the strut fitting broke...

Anyone know what this mod was and if it was worthwhile?... Also, anyone in Montana know whatever happened to that SC?...

I found it!...

Belongs to David Bennett in Thompson Falls...

Still don't know about those strut cables though...
